This activity helps you understand the principles of art and design. You will define each principle using 1–2 clear and direct sentences.
Step 1: Prepare Your Paper
Divide the paper into sections using boxes or a table format. You may follow a structured layout or create your own arrangement.
Step 2: Fill in the Principles of Art
Write 1–2 sentences only for each. Keep your answers simple and direct.
Balance – The distribution of visual weight in an artwork.
Symmetrical – Equal balance on both sides.
Asymmetrical – Unequal but visually balanced.
Radial – Elements arranged around a central point.
Proportion – The size relationship between parts of an artwork.
Natural – Realistic size relationships.
Exaggerated – Sizes are distorted (very small or very large).
Idealized – Perfect or improved proportions.
Emphasis – The focal point that draws attention.
Contrast – The difference between elements such as light and dark.
Unity – The sense of completeness and wholeness in an artwork.
Variety – The use of different elements to create interest.
Harmony – The pleasing arrangement of elements.
Movement – The path the viewer’s eye follows through the artwork.
Rhythm – The repetition of elements to create flow.
Repetition – Reusing elements to create consistency.
Pattern – Repetition of elements in an organized arrangement.
Step 3: Organize and Design
Keep your layout clear and balanced. You may add simple designs or colors, but focus on the content. Write neatly and keep explanations short.
Reminder:
Focus on clarity and understanding. Avoid long explanations. Content is more important than decoration.
