Plate #6
Topic: Philosophical Importance of Art
Template Title: My Philosophical Importance of Art
Materials:
1 whole sheet of bond paper;
pen (black or blue ink);
ruler;
any coloring materials (optional)
Instructions / Activity Guide:
This activity helps you understand the philosophical importance of art used to explain what art is and why it matters. You will organize ideas and give simple explanations and examples.
Step 1: Prepare Your Materials
Divide the paper into two main sections. The left side shall be shorter than the right side.
• Label the left section: Philosophical Importance of Art
• Label the right section: My illustration about the importance of Art
Step 2: Explain the Philosophical Importance of Art
Under Philosophical Importance of Art, list the following and write 1–2 complete opinionated sentences explaining each. Add one simple example for every item. You may use coloring materials for this template.
• Integrity
• Proportion / Consonance
• Radiance / Clarity
Guide Questions:
Integrity - What makes an artwork whole or complete? Does it require sophisticated strokes?
Proportion/ Consonance - How do balance and harmony affect beauty in art? Does it have to be always proportionate?
Radiance/ Clarity - How does clarity or radiance make an artwork meaningful?
Step 3: Illustration
In the space provided on the left, illustrate anything that represents the importance of art in our daily lives. This may include an event, a symbol, song lyrics, a poem, a story, a book, a scene from a movie, a cut and pasted picture, or any other creative form. Then write a short and concise reflection explaining the meaning of your chosen artwork and how it relates to the role of art in everyday life.
Sample Output (Short Example):
Integrity
Integrity to me means that the artwork is complete and unified, with all parts working together to express one clear idea. I believe art with integrity feels more meaningful because nothing feels missing or unnecessary.
Example: A finished portrait where the colors, details, and background all support the subject.
A song that fills your happiness or sadness.
A perfect place like home.
Proportion / Consonance
Proportion or consonance refers to the balanced and harmonious relationship among the parts of an artwork. Art with good proportion is pleasing to the eye because it feels natural and well-arranged.
Example: A drawing of the human body where the head, arms, and legs are correctly sized.
A choir singing in harmony where each voice is balanced and blends well.
One line rule in the corridor.
Note: Even the head of Mr. Bean is not proportionate to his body and feet, it does not mean it’s a bad art. It has something to do with the purpose and the kind of target audience of the animation.
Radiance / Clarity
Radiance or clarity is the quality that allows an artwork’s message or beauty to stand out clearly. An art with radiance captures attention because its meaning or emotion is easily felt and understood.
Example: A bright painting that clearly expresses happiness through light colors and expressions.
An upbeat song with a catchy melody and clear lyrics that instantly expresses joy.
Reminder:
Use simple explanations and meaningful examples. Focus on understanding philosophical ideas, not memorizing definitions. Neatness and clarity are more important than artistic design.
Enjoy!
